BoxyCharm September 2017 Review - Boxy Baddie

Yea! My BoxyCharm has arrived for the month of September, and I am really excited to check out what this month has in store for me. Fall is my favorite season, and their boxes are usually amazing, so I have a feeling this is going to be great as well. BoxyCharm is a monthly beauty subscription box that delivers at least four (but usually five) full size beauty products and tools to your door for only $21. These boxes always value over $100, and they always deliver great brands and products, which makes this one of the best and most favored subscription boxes of all time. I love that this box delivers full palettes and luxe brushes, so I always hope for some of those. Let’s see!

This month’s theme is “Boxy Baddie.” BoxyCharm used to deliver the best themes and curated items that went perfectly with the season, but I think they are running out of ideas, because they haven’t been the best. This theme is all about showing off your tougher side. I prefer light and natural looking makeup, so these hard colors may not be great for me, but I could always use some black mascara and a possible bold lip. I will say, along with their less desirable themes, BoxyCharm hasn’t been curating them accordingly either, so I hope this is the case this time around.

PUR Soiree Diaries Eyeshadow Palette

$34.00 - 0.48 oz

First of all, this packaging is so beautiful, and it is perfect for me as well. That white marble is so cool and current, and it fits in perfectly with my décor. The eyeshadows are amazing as well. The colors are everything you need for a complete look, and the reds are perfect for fall. The pigmentation is nice and I haven’t noticed any fallout, which is impressive, and there is a good collection of both mattes and shimmers. I will say, there are quite a few palettes with these same colors (I am sure I already have a few in my collection), but these seem fresh, and since the palette is so beautiful, I will be most likely to pull for this one first.

MAC Cosmetics Eyebrows in Lingering

$18.00 - 0.003 oz

One of BoxyCharm’s flaws is their lack of color variation when it comes to items that match your hair or skin tone. I’ve already had to give away a few brow products they’ve sent me, because they just won’t match with my light blonde hair. This brow pencil is just the same unfortunately. The color was created for brown haired girls in mind, and the color is just too dark for me. Bummer. Otherwise, I do like this self-sharpening pencil that draws in a fine line. That makes it perfect for creating hair-like lines for a more natural look. It would also work great for shaping as well. This is a really nice product, but I just won’t be able to use it. BoxyCharm could really work on this.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Strut

$6.00 - 0.11 oz

I did see a sneak peak that we would all be receiving a ColourPop liquid lipstick which got me really excited, but I don’t know how excited I am about this color. I much prefer pinks and reds with my skin tone, and I don’t know if I am brave enough to pull off a natural lip. This color is very beautiful though, and the warm tones scream fall. Also, this formula is really nice. It doesn’t dry out my lips too badly, and it lasts for hours. This is such a great brand for liquid lipsticks if you like good quality and a wide variety of colors at a great price. I am going to try to swap out this color with one of my BoxyCharm subscribing friends.

Studio Makeup HD Finishing Powder

$35.00 - 0.2 oz

I absolutely love these loose powder matte setting products, and while I don’t necessarily purchase them on my own, I use them up quickly when I receive them in one of my boxes. This item works hard to not only set your makeup in place, but it also mattefy’s your face while blurring pores and fine lines. I always look to hide these pores and lines, so this is a great finishing touch, but I also have oil issues and shine throughout the day, so this is a great way to soak it all up without having to redo my makeup. This full size container will last me forever, and I am so happy to have another one in my collection.

Bodyography Flat Shader & Angled Liner Brush

$10.00

I do love that BoxyCharm includes beauty tools along with their makeup, hair care, and skincare, but I am so tired of receiving the same brushes over and over. This isn’t just BoxyCharm’s fault, because so many boxes like to send me eye shadow and eyeliner brushes, and I just don’t need anymore. Other than my overload of these brushes, these brushes are nice. The angled liner brush is so nice. The sharp angle works great for detailed lines, and the bristles are the perfect density for this purpose. The flat shader is nice as well. It is great for detail on your eyelids as well, and this is ideal for pressing your main color on your lid. These are nice brushes and great quality, but I just don’t need them.

Briogeo Don't Despair Repair Deep Conditioning Mask

$20.00 - 2 oz

Even though this isn’t the full size container, I am still really excited about receiving this product in yet another one of my subscription boxes. This mask by Briogeo turns over processed and straw-like hair into workable and soft strands. I love having this in my shower to use about once a week to help give my hair that boost of moisture. My hair always looks great, and it never weighs it down. I am also a fan of the light milky, flower scent. It is sweet without overpowering. While this is their smaller bottle, it will still last me a while since I won’t be using it that often, and I love when boxes send me items I already know and love that are perfect for restocking.

Overall, I am pretty happy with this month’s box, but there were still a few items that I just won’t use. That palette may be my favorite palette that BoxyCharm has ever sent me. The case itself is beautiful and the colors are perfect for me and fall. The setting powder and deep conditioner are wonderful as well, and since I already know and love these items, they are great for restocking. The brushes are nice, but I just don’t need them, and the brow pencil and liquid lipstick are also great, but the colors just won’t work. These will be going to a friend. This month’s box has a value of $133. This box only cost $21, so that is amazing, and even though I won’t be using a few items, the others are well worth the price. This first fall box wasn’t a complete win, but I am hoping October has more to offer me!

Popsugar Must Have September 2017 Review

Yea! My Popsugar Must Have box has arrived for the month of September, and since fall boxes tend to be my favorites, I am so excited to see what this box has in store. Popsugar is a monthly subscription box that delivers at least six full size lifestyle items from fashion, beauty, home, books, fitness, and food. This box costs $39.95, but it is more affordable at longer subscription lengths. Also, this box always values over $100, so you always get your monies worth. I am a fan of the items delivered in this box, and it is such a great way to treat myself. Let’s check out what’s inside.

Popsugar doesn’t exactly have a monthly theme, but instead they curate their items off their inspiration words. This month’s inspirations are Trendsetting, Personalize, Style, Floral, Illuminating. To me, this sounds like an accessory heavy box, which means some jewelry, possibly a hat, or a scarf. I’ve seen all of these items in boxes in the past, so it wouldn’t be out of the norm. I am a little thrown off by the Floral inspiration. This is the start of fall, and I shouldn’t see flowers until spring, but maybe it will be a darker, less feminine flower print. Otherwise, I really like the sounds of this box, and I am excited to dig in and find out if I am right about any of my predictions.

Hudson + Bleecker Bonjour Smartphone Wallet in Dusty Rose Faux Embossed Snakeskin

$48.00

While I knew we would have an accessory or two, I wasn’t expecting a wallet, and this one is amazing. This light pink, zip close purse can be used alone with your cell phone and cards to take with you to the bar or a party, or you can throw it into your larger purse and use it as a wallet for organizing. I am impressed with the space inside of this, and I could easily fit in my phone, a lipstick, and all my cards and cash. Without your cell phone and lipstick, this is much more roomier to hold onto coupons or notes, depending on the purpose. I wouldn’t normally reach for pink, but I like this light color, and the snakeskin texture is really cool and modern. Plus, this will be great to use all year long.

Figs & Rouge Hydra Prime Light Reflective Brightening Primer & Illuminator

$45.00 - 1 fl oz

I wasn’t too sure about this product, because I thought it was a highlighter, and I don’t another single liquid highlighter in my collection, so I was really happy to see it is an illuminating primer. These are really trendy right now, and while I thought they made my face too shiny at first, they look great under your final powder, as it creates a healthy and natural glow. This appeared to be a little too dark for my skin tone, but it blended in really well, and instead my skin appears to have an early fall tan. This wasn’t the best at covering pores or lines, but I can just use setting powder on top of this instead. This item is such a pleasant surprise, and I love how it lets my skin hold onto that summer tan for as long as possible.

Fuji Naja by Hat Attack Coco Flower Pin

$17.00

This item is what they meant by floral, and I am now wishing it were a spring, pastel, flower print instead. This pin can be clipped anywhere (your jacket, purse, or shirt) to add your own flare without much effort. I do like the Fall/Halloween vibe, but I think I would prefer this in the October box, or really, not at all. This just isn’t my style, and I couldn’t imagine accessorizing with this at all. The flower is nice, though, and I would consider it high quality. This was such a great box until now, but hopefully it picks up the steam with the rest of the items.

Richer Poorer Wool Striped Nora Sock in Charcoal & Black

$22.00

Hmmm, again. This feels like a Halloween item, and since it is only September, I am not in the mood for these dark colors. Also, I am allergic to wool (I think a lot of people are), and my feet are already itchy, so these would just be painful if I were to ever wear them. That being said, I love the cozy sock idea, as the temperatures are turning, and these would be a great transitional item to wear with those summer sleep shorts until you need to break out those sweatpants. Also, since we did receive them in September, subscribers will be able to wear them through the entire month of October. I will probably just give these away to a sister or friend.

Lipstick Queen Black Lace Rabbit Cream Blush

$25.00 - 0.07 oz

Ok, this so an October box, and this black transitional blush proves it. I know what you’re thinking, black blush!? But, why?! It is way cooler and much less Goth than that. This cream blush works with your natural skin tone to create a rosy pink color perfect for you. I love watching it transition on my cheeks, and the ending color is beautiful. While this is such an amazing product, I am not in love with cream blushes. They are a little difficult to work with, so I tend to not reach for them, but since I really like how this color looks on my skin, I will be much more likely. This is our second transitioning product from Lipstick Queen, and I hope we still receive some more in the future since they are so fun.

Pipsnacks PipCorn Kettle Delicious Mini Popcorn

$4.99 - 4.5 oz

Popsugar always delivers a food item in their box, and while it is usually a sugary chocolate item, they decided to switch it up a bit. These PipCorn snacks are a healthier alternative to your normal potato chips, and so much more delicious. This full size bag is great, because it will last my boyfriend and I a couple of days, and they are a great way to curve that salty craving with just a handful of these small kettle popcorn crisps. I will say, this bag did take up the majority of the space in the box, which is a bit of a bummer, but at least they are delicious!

Overall, this month’s box was middle of the road. There were a few items I really like and a few I will never use. That primer is my favorite item in the box, and it makes my skin glow! The wallet is also pretty nice as well, and while the color isn’t my favorite, this will still be great for nights out. I really like the cream blush, but since it is cream, it can’t be my favorite. Otherwise it might be. The popcorn snack was also great, even if it was only the food item. That flower pin and those wool socks are just not for me, which really bums me out. They will make great gifts for a friend or sister, though. This month’s box had a value of $161.99. That is pretty amazing, especially since I only spend $29.95. With that price and that value, I don’t really mind if everything isn’t a perfect fit. I will say, I hope October is much more amazing.

If you would like to try Popsugar for yourself, just click here. It is a great way to treat yourself to the trendiest products at a great price.

Ipsy Glam Bag September 2017 Review - Like. A. Boss.

Yeah! My Ipsy Glam Bag has arrived for the month of September, and fall boxes are usually my favorite, so I can’t wait to see what this one has in store for me. Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription box that delivers full and sample size beauty items to your door in a makeup bag styled around the monthly theme for only $10. This subscription is makeup heavy and delivers a wide variety of products and brands that are both affordable or expensive if you were to repurchase. This subscription has really helped me stock up my makeup collection at an affordable price, and I am excited to check out the new additions.

This month’s theme is “Like. A. Boss.” This box is all about being a boss in your life. Whether it be owning your social life or stepping it up at work, these products will help you look your best. Ipsydoes a great job at matching their makeup bags with the theme, but the products are usually all over the place and don’t really have anything to do with it. I am happy that at least the makeup bag matches, especially this one. I love the edgy design, and I will be using this before many others in my collection. These bags are great for storage or travel, but this one will be going into my purse to help organize lipsticks or perfumes.

Pixi by Petra Beauty Blush Duo in Peach Honey

$12.00 - 0.16 oz    (Full Size!)

I wear blush almost every single day, so I love receiving new colors. This blush duo isn’t my favorite discovery, though, for a few reasons. Pixi’s products aren’t always the most high end, and the pigmentation is good at best. Also, these colors aren’t exactly blushes to me but instead light bronzers. The lightest color could even be used as a natural highlighter. While this isn’t my favorite blush I’ve ever tried, I am happy this is a full size item, and I will grab for this once in a while for bronzer or highlighter. This will be ideal when my skin has less of a tan.

Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Radiance Primer

$39.00 - 1 oz    ($9.75 Value)

Now that my complexion has improved, I have traded in heavy foundation with BB creams and tinted primers, so this item from Smashbox is perfect for me. While I do already love their photo finish primers, I am a little disappointed with the tint. I have pretty light skin, and this color would be ideal for darker skin tones, but since it is only a light tint, this will work for me during the summer months when I have a bit of a tan. Besides the tint, this primer is like magic, and it hides both fine lines and pores so well. All I need is a powder to set, and I am out the door. I don’t know why we fill out profiles if they aren’t going to use them when curating our bags.

Luxie Beauty Rose Gold Medium Angled Shading Eye Brush 207

$12.00

I love that Ipsy also includes beauty tools with their beauty products, and it is always fun to receive a new brush in this subscription. I’ve received a few Luxie brushes from Ipsy in the past, and I am always impressed with their quality. Also, this millennial pink is so pretty and looks great on my vanity. I will say, I am so tired of receiving eye shadow brushes. I have so many, and can hardly get to them as is. I’ve been hoping for a new blush brush or powder brush for a while now, but as I know they are a little more expensive, I think I may have to wait a little longer.

Elizabeth Mott Pop! Goes The Shadow in Toasted

$13.00 - 0.07 oz    ($3.71 Value)

Elizabeth Mott isn’t a very popular brand, but it should be, because her products are so good. This premium shadow in a shimmery bronze is so pigmented that you only need one swipe, and I haven’t noticed any fallout. Also, this shade is beautiful and perfect for me. I love using one dramatic color across my entire eyelid, it is simple yet still creates an impact, and this color works perfectly with my skin tone. Even though the packaging isn’t ideal, you can pop out the pan and stick it into your favorite magnetic palette. This may be a little small, but I rarely go through entire eyeshadows, so this is plenty for me.

Manefit Beauty Planner Masks in Mugwort, Astringent + Pore Care and Lily Whitening + Brightening

$10.00 - 5 pack    ($4.00 Value)

I love sheet masks, and they are one of my favorite items to receive in subscription boxes, even if I have plenty to work through right now. Sheet masks are so simple to use and refreshing as well, so I love using them when I want to relax and renew. I am used to receiving masks for hydrating or balancing, and these are two types I’ve never seen before, which makes them even more exciting. I am excited to deep clean my pores, and the brightening face mask will be great when my face is looking dull. These aren’t the nicest sheet masks ever, but they will be fun to try.

Overall, this month’s glam bag is pretty nice. I love the design of the bag, and I will be using it often, so it started out as a win. I am in love with the eyeshadow and the sheet masks are always fun to receive. The rest of the items are nice, but didn’t nail it. The blush is more of a bronzer, and the brand isn’t the best. The primer is something that I will use, but the tint is off as well. The brush is so high end and great quality, but I already have so many. This month’s box has a value of $41.46. That is pretty great for a box that only costs $10, especially since I will be using all the items. I’ve been waiting for a month to hit it out of the park, so maybe October will be it.

Birchbox September 2017 Review - Your Time to Shine

Yea! My Birchbox has arrived for the month of September, and fall is my favorite time of year, so I can’t wait to see what beauty products they have for me that will complement the cooler weather.Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription box that delivers at least five samples (and sometime full size products) around your profile for only $10. This used to be one of my favorite boxes, because the rewards system was amazing and I love the brands and products, but now so many boxes offer more. This box does know me the best, though, so I know I am going to find some products I really love. Let’s check out what is inside.

This month’s theme is “Your Time To Shine.” This month is all about you and putting yourself in the spotlight. Whether it be a new school year and you want a fresh, bright start, or you need that extra confidence to help you with that promotion or to get you that desired role, these products will give you that extra push. I really like this theme, because confidence is power, and I sometimes lack it due to my greasy skin, zitty complexion, or my afternoon frizzy hair. Hopefully these products will stop me from holding myself back. This box design is one of my favorites of all time. The colors and pattern are just my style, and this is going straight onto my shelf to display!

$29.00 - 1.6 oz    ($4.35 Value)

Now that my skin is balanced, I like to lighten up my makeup, and I have recently switched from heavy foundation to these tinted BB creams. It looks more natural and feels better, plus it prevents my skin from blemishing more. This BB cream is great. I love the light tint that blends in perfectly with my skin tone, and the formula helps blur any pores and wrinkles. This is such a great product, and this sample will last me at least two weeks of applications. Plus, what brings more confidence than a great complexion.

$24.00 - 5.3 oz    ($3.40 Value)

My hair is so flat, and I hate how it lacks volume after only a few hours after styling, so I love using texturizing sprays at the start of each morning and also to liven up my roots throughout the day. While this formula isn’t my favorite (I have one that is hard to beat), but it does work well, and I like how it leaves my hair flexible to style, but still has hold. This size is great to keep at my desk at work or to leave in my car for drinks afterwards. This product is perfect for me, and it will help keep my confidence up!

$42.00 - 20 ml    ($6.30 Value)

I don’t always get the most sleep, and I am already prone to dark eye circles, so I try to use a cream every night that I don’t forget to help lighten and brighten. This under eye cream doesn’t only help lighten and brighten, but it also helps soften those early wrinkles and lines. This cream is very light, so you could definitely use it under makeup if you prefer to use this during the day. As for me, this is going on my nightstand to help remind me to apply it. This is yet another sample that will last me a while too. The tube isn’t huge, but you don’t need a whole lot.

$8.00

Every month, Birchbox allows you to choose one of their selected samples, a full curated box, or just do nothing and keep it a surprise. This item is my selected sample, so not only did I know it was coming, but I am really excited to try it out. Birchbox doesn’t often include beauty tools in their boxes, so it is really exciting when they do, as I love how practical they are. This face scrubber works harder than your normal wash cloth, as it helps clean deep into pores while it scrubs away dead skin. I expected this to be rough on my skin, but it really isn’t, and I am happy to throw this in with my other bathroom towels.

$10.00 - 0.02 oz

One of the reasons I really like Birchbox over other subscriptions is how they deliver way more skin products than makeup, but still includes some each time. I do wear makeup, but I usually stick to the basics unless I am dressing up or going out. I don’t like wearing eyeliner, because it is too harsh on my light complexion, so this light taupe pencil works perfectly for me. It gives my eyes just a touch of definition and shimmer without looking heavy or gothic. They also suggest using this as a highlighter for those thin lines on your nose or lip. I love the multiuse, especially since I won’t be using it all too often.

This month was amazing for me, as I really like all the samples. Also, the box design and theme make me so happy. I am so happy with the BB cream discovery, while the eye cream and texture spray are must haves in my routine. The scrubbing cloth works so well, and it will last me forever, while the strobing pencil will be fun to play with. This month’s box has a value of $32.05. That is pretty great for a $10 box, especially since I really like all the items. This is a great start to fall, as I always think this season’s boxes are the best, and I can’t wait to see what the next few months have in store.

If you would like to try Birchbox for yourself, just click here. It is a great way to try out great products and brands at a great price.

Target Beauty Box September 2017 Review - Hello New Leaf

Yea! My Target Beauty Box has arrived for September, and I am really excited to check out what they have in store for me this month. Target Beauty Box isn’t exactly a subscription, because you have to purchase each one separately when they are available, but like subscriptions, the boxes deliver beauty samples and full size items around a theme. These boxes range from $5 to $10 depending on the value, but, like this one, many have been priced at $7. These boxes are a great way to try out new higher end drugstore products at a great price, and this is a great way to sample affordable items to repurchase as well. While I do get a peek at the items when I purchase the box, I try not to look very long, so I am looking forward to checking out what’s inside.

This month’s theme is Hello New Leaf. It is the back to school month which for many means a new start, and for me it means getting back into a routine after an lazy and adventurous summer. Target curated these products to deliver your new basics. I love this theme, because I do love routines, but it will also be nice to receive a box of newer and better products that I use regularly. Also, these boxes come with great travel size essentials, so you can stock these up and won’t have to pay for the overpriced small sizes in store. I am hoping for some travel size dry shampoo and shower items.

Simple Micellar Cleansing Water

$1.99 - 1.9 oz    (Full Travel Size!)

This is a product I already know and love, so I am really happy with this travel size bottle. If you don’t already know, micellar water is a natural cleanser that removes makeup and the daily grime off your face by applying it like a toner. This may not be my favorite micellar water I’ve ever tried, I like this brand, because they don’t add a bunch of unnecessary ingredients. This is a great product to stick to your routine when you don’t have a lot of time at night or you are exhausted from your busy day. Plus, the product improves the look of your skin, so you don’t have to worry about rinsing it off. This is a great start to this routine box.

Covergirl Total Tease Mascara in Very Black

$7.99 - 0.21 oz    (Full Size!)

I love trying out new mascaras, but I hate paying full price on a formula or wand that I don’t love. So, receiving them in my subscription boxes is a win, win. This mascara comes with a small comb on the end to get every last lash, and the formula itself lengthens and volumizes, which is required in every mascara. Plus, this is a full size item worth more than the entire box, which makes everything else in the box basically free. I don’t think this is an item I would purchase again, as I prefer your basic wand, but this is great for those special nights that I spend a bit more time on my makeup. I have to say, this packaging is so cute as well. What a great twist on a basic.

Acure Ultra-Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner

$9.99 each - 8 oz    ($2.50 Value)

This is another item that I’ve already tried, but I really enjoyed my last sample so I am happy to have more at my disposal. This natural shampoo and conditioner focuses on their ingredients, so I don’t feel bad about using this in my hair. Also, it is quite hydrating, and it is ideal for the fall and winter season where everything seems to dry out. I remember this having a nice scent as well. Not too heavy, but light and flowery. I am traveling quite a bit this fall, so I think I will hold onto these for those weekend trips, but these will be the first I reach for when packing.

Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Antioxidant Super Moisturizer

$14.99 - 1.7 oz    ($1.76 Value)

These gel moisturizer pots have been trending for about a year now, and I’ve collected quite a few from all my subscription boxes So, while I do like these products, I already have quite a few to work through still. These items give your face a burst of hydration, as the watery texture allows it to soak into skin. This promises to vanish the appearance of fine lines and it will also remove toxins from your skin as well. I think these are ideal for fall and winter months as a night cream, as it leaves a little too much product on your face for day and under makeup. I will hold onto this pot until I go through the others, which shouldn’t be too hard with the driest months around the corner.

NIVEA In-Shower Nourishing Body Lotion

$5.49 - 13.5 oz    ($1.10 Value)

This product was introduced to us about a year ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since. In the late fall and all the winter months, I have to apply lotion over my entire body after I shower, and not only takes time, but I hate standing naked while it dries. This in shower lotion does the trick in one quick one over, and it actually works better, because this product soaks into skin better. I will say, I still have to apply lotion on my feet and face, but this takes so much time out of my routine. I will be placing this in my shower as soon as the temperature turns. I am so happy to have another sample of this.

Sensodyne ProNamel Strong & Bright Toothpaste

$5.99 - 3 oz    ($1.60 Value)

I was hoping for some travel size toothpaste, because I just ran out with my last trip, and I will need one for a few weeks from now. I have tried Sensodyne before, but never this white and bright version, so I am excited to give it a try. My teeth do get sensitive one in a while, so I like to have this on hand when that happens. Also, I always grab the whitening toothpaste, because I drink so much coffee and they tend to stain, so I am happy to see that in this toothpaste. This will be going straight into my travel toiletries bag for my next trip.

up & up Premium Cotton Rounds

$2.92 - 100 ct    ($0.05 Value)

I think this sample is just overall a little funny. Everyone has used cotton rounds and the packaging is about as much as the product inside. But, that being said, I use a cotton round with my toner every day, and these are already packed for travel or camping. This is a nice little extra, and it will get used, but it doesn’t add anything to the value. At least it is practical, and I know these will get used on my next weekend trip. Plus, this premium cotton round is nicer than what I normally purchase. I may have to switch.

Overall, I am pretty happy with this month’s box. There aren’t many new discoveries, but there are so many practical items in travel size that will be ideal for traveling. I am in love with that micellar water and in-shower lotion. They are typical additions to my daily routine. I love seeing the full size mascara, and while it isn’t my favorite one I’ve ever tried, it will still get used. That shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste are going to be set aside for travel, and that face lotion will definitely get used on these cooler nights. This month’s box has a value of $16.99. I paid $7 on this box, so that isn’t bad, but it would be nice to see a higher value soon. Hopefully next month.

If you would like to try Target Beauty Box for yourself, look around the first or last Monday of the month when they tend to go on sale. They sell out quickly, so pick them up when you can.
