BarkBox August 2017 Review - Invasion of the Space Squirrels

Yea! My dog’s BarkBox has arrived for the month of August, and we are both excited to check out all the goodies inside. BarkBox is a monthly subscription box that delivers toys and treats curated to your dog’s size around a monthly theme. I am always impressed with the quality, ingredients, and overall cuteness of these items each time, so it is always a lovely surprise to see the box at my door. Also, I feel good about giving these treats and toys to my dog. This box costs $29, but with a coupon code and longer subscription length, I only pay $20 a month. Let’s check this one out.

This month’s theme is "Invasion of the Space Squirrel." While we did start this year with a trip around the world and a new destination at each stop, I am sad to say that is officially done. My first box from BarkBox had an alien theme, but boy has this box evolved since then. Not only are the toys and treats created to match the theme perfectly, but the value and quality has also improved significantly. While I do expect some crazy alien figures, I think this theme will come with some other cleaver toys and treats as well. This may not be the most exciting theme for me going into it, but it may just surprise me.

Bixbi Bark Pops Light & Crunchy Dog Treats in

$10.00 - 4 oz

How fun are these crunchy air treats? I remember trying space food as a child, and it was all dehydrated and crispy just like these fun pops. My dog wasn’t too sure about these at first, but after one bight, he was definitely interested. I will say, these leave a bit of a mess on the floor, so I just make sure to give these to him on the hardwood instead of the carpet. I don’t think these would be the best on nutrition, since they are basically just air, but at least he likes them and they will only be used as treats anyways.

Bark & Co Peaceful Percy Space Squirrel

$10.00

While I was expecting an alien toy, this peaceful squirrel was a definite surprise. It is really unique and cute while still fitting in with the theme, and of course if there are human like species on different planets, why can’t there be alien squirrels to keep those dogs barking as well. This stuffed toy is not only cute, but it is pretty durable, and my dog loves it so much that he doesn’t want to tear it open anyways. It has a little squeak inside to keep him attentive, and this toy will be great for tossing, tugging, or just cuddling. This may be his new favorite toy.

Flying Saucer Snacks

$6.00 - 5 oz

This just wouldn’t be an alien themed box without flying saucer shaped snacks, and these are much different than the previous treats in this box. These are medium sized meaty chews which are perfect for a treat after a good long walk or after a string of well performed tricks. BarkBox does such a great job delivering a variety of treats, and while I do appreciate them all, these are the type of treats we go through the most and I am most excited to receive. My dog really liked these, and gargled it up quickly. I don’t think this bag will last very long.

Bark & Co Set To Fun! Ray Gun!

$8.00

OMG! I cannot get over the cuteness of this toy. When you go on an alien adventure, you need a ray gun, so this is perfect. While it is super detailed, I am really impressed with the durability, My favorite part of this toy is the tube whistle inside. When you move it up and down, the toy makes a fun whhhhoooooppppp! My dog finds it so interesting, and I especially love it when he hears the noise while carrying it around. He just doesn’t get it! This is one of MY favorite toys from a BarkBox ever, and I hope my dog decides this is one of his favorites as well.

$5.00

Like I said before, I love the variety of items delivered in this box, and the last item is always a rawhide or jerky treat. These are great for those times you want to reward your dog a little more or keep him busy while friends are over, you are watching a movie, or you need to keep him away while you eat. I don’t like to purchase these items individually, because they are so expensive, so it is great that BarkBox always includes one. These pig ears gross me out a little, but my dog likes them a lot, so that is a win.

Overall, I am pretty happy with this month’s box. It isn’t my favorite theme ever, but the toys are treats are a great variety, and everything was cute and will be loved by both me and my dog. The squirrel is his new favorite toy, while I love playing with the ray gun myself. The treats are a great variety too, and he will enjoy all three. This month’s box has a value of $39. That is alright for a box that costs $29, but I am really happy with that amount for only spending $20. I couldn’t purchase all these items at the store for this price. That being said, I can’t wait to see what is in store for next month.
