Walmart Beauty Box Winter 2016 Review

My Walmart Beauty Box has arrived for the Winter season, and I was pretty surprised. I just received the shipping notice but a day ago, so I didn’t expect it to already be at my door. Walmart Beauty Box is a seasonal subscription the delivers beauty samples and some full size items to your door for only $5 each. All of the beauty products they deliver are sold at Walmart, so you aren’t going to try out high end brands, but this is a great alternative, and I am much more willing to repurchase if I like a sample. Also, because it is so inexpensive, this makes a great surprise treat for you or anyone you love.

Recently, Walmart offers two subscription box varieties: Classic and Trendsetter. I decided to go with trendsetter, because I like to try out new products (part of the reason I love subscription boxes so much), and I want to know the best of new department store beauty products. They do not include an itemized card or a theme, but I kind of like the simplicity with this box. For this Winter season, I am hoping for a possible sheet mask, moisturizer, and makeup colors perfect for the holiday season.

TRESemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo

$4.94 - 4.3 oz    ($1.32 Value)

This dry shampoo was my first bottle ever, just when this type of product was introduced to the world, so discovering this in my box brings me home. I remember not liking the extreme white spray that got everywhere. Most of it in my hair did soak up and left only a light residue, but this spray got my walls, mirror, basically everywhere I was spraying and slightly missed my hair. This bottle does now promise less white residue, so I am excited to give it another try. These sample bottles are perfect for travel, as well, so I will be saving this for the plane. Great start to this box.

Dove Dry Oil Moisturizing Body Wash

$5.47 - 22 oz    ($0.45 Value)

One flaw of this box, I often receive the same sample, and this is one of those cases. I can’t complain, though, because this body wash is great. I love how is moisturizes, which is a must this time of year. It also smells great. I usually prefer department store brands when it comes to body wash, and Dove is my go to brand. Since I know I love this product, I will be saving this for travel as well. That is, if I can resist holding onto it. I might have to purchase the full size product the next time I’m in need.

Curel Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer

$9.89 - 12 fl oz    ($1.65 Value)

I was hoping for moisturizing products, so my wish has definitely been granted. This is a new discovery for 2016, and it is now a shower must have. I used to spend at least five minutes putting on moisturizer after the shower, but this in shower moisturizer makes it too quick and easy. Plus, your body accepts moisture most when it is warm and damp, so it is really more productive as well. I couldn’t believe how moisturized my skin felt after even one use, and I noticed a difference throughout the day. This is going straight into my shower, pronto.

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream

$3.96 - 2 oz    ($0.99 Value)

I read hand cream and expected your typical white moisturizer, but this is much more your typical healing ointment. With very dry skin in mind, this glycerin moisturizer helps heal cracks and bumps. Since it is a little too greasy and powerful for a hand cream, I am much more willing to use this on cuticles, elbows, and feet. You know, all those places that dry out faster than the rest. This is a large sample, too, so I know this will last forever, especially how sparingly I will be using it. I’m happy with this product, but it’s not a home run.

SoftSheen Carson Haircare AMLA Legend 10-in-1 Silky Blow-Out Elixir

$8.88 - 6 fl oz    ($0.50 Value)

While I don’t normally care for foil samples, I am happy to see a new brand. Unfortunately, this just isn’t the product for me. I rarely blow dry my hair, and since I do on special occasions, I don’t want to sample a product out then. For everyone else, this does sound like something great to have around the house. It protects hair up to 450 degrees, it helps repair damaged hair, provides shine and a silky appearance, and helps prevent split ends. These all sound great, and I’m wondering if it works without the blow out. I might as well try out.

Garner Whole Blends Green Apple & Green Tea Extracts Refreshing Shampoo & Conditioner

$5.47 - 22 fl oz    ($0.17 Value)

Foil samples are never fun to receive in subscription boxes, but again, since this box is so cheap, I can understand. I’ve seen this shampoo and conditioner on shelves, and I’ve always wanted to give it a shot, so this is truly a great sample for me. I like green tea in my products as it promises to refresh my hair. It’s been looking and feeling a little blah lately, so I am hoping a product like this will turn it around. I have to say, I am really impressed with this duo, and my hair both looked and felt great. Unfortunately, I only have one more use, but again, I will probably have to purchase this when I need to restock.

L'Oreal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Golden Serum and Day Cream

$19.97 each - 1 fl oz & 1.7 fl oz    ($3.17 Value)

Now, this is another foil sample that I am upset to receive, because I would really like more of this product. This cell renewal serum is the first step to their process which promises to restore resilience, radiance, and vitality. I’ve noticed my skin age over the last few years, so this is perfect for me. Second, the day cream like the first promises to promote healthy skin with cell renewal. Plus, it has SPF 15. Both these products absorbed quickly, and felt luxurious on my face. The scent was light and pleasant as well. I wish there were more to sample, but I guess this will do.

$7.33 - 6 oz    ($1.22 Value)

I did ask for some moisturizing products, and they definiltey delivered. I am a fan of Burt's Bees, and I am pretty shocked it made it's way into a Walmart subscription box. This lotion is the perfect consistency for dry skin without leaving a layer of moisturizer on top of my skin. Also, I really like the scent. Unfortunately, this isn't that large of a sample, and this will probably only cover my entire body twice, but it was enough to sell me on this product. I am very impressed and may just have to pick up a bottle the next time I'm at the store.

Overall, this season’s box was middle of the road for me. I didn’t think anything was very trendsetting, but instead many products to restock what I already have. That being said, I do like everything, and I will use every item except the blow out foil sample. I am also happy with all the moisturizing products. That is just perfect for winter. This season’s box has a value of $9.47. That isn’t that great either, and it is barely over what I paid. I feel like I basically got what I paid for. It was fun to be surprised, though, and I do like sampling products, so that is a win. I am excited to see what is in store for me next month.
