BarkBox May 2017 Review - The Good, the Bad, and the Pugly

My dog’s BarkBox has arrived for the month of May, and while we still haven’t gone through everything in last month’s box, I am still excited to see the theme and what is inside. My dog is always excited, no matter what, and I’m surprised each month when he know the mail is for him. BarkBox is a monthly subscription box that delivers toys and treats around a monthly theme for your furry child. They come in three different sizes, so every dog will be able to enjoy, and the box is as cheap as $20 a month. We both really enjoy this subscription for its quality and the price, because you couldn’t purchase these items in any store for any cheaper. We are digging in now!

This month’s theme is “The Good, the Bad, and the Pugly.” We travel to the wild, wild west this time around, and these products will bring out the country in us all. From January of this year, each stop has been a different location on the map, so I am excited that they are keeping with that theme. While this is a more general location rather than a specific city or country, it still takes me to a particular place in the world. I have a feeling these toys and treats are going to be super cute, even though they might not be my favorite. I can’t wait to see what’s inside.

Lucky Dog Pork & Beans

$6.00 - 5 oz

These treats fit perfectly with the theme, and bring me straight to the campfire, even though I’ve never eaten the canned version myself. These treats are on the smaller size, so they are perfect for tricks or potty time. The best part, he really likes them, and will do whatever I say with one in my hand. Since they are soft and grainy, they do fall apart a little, so these aren’t the best option for traveling, but we spend the majority of our time together at home anyways, so we won’t have a problem going through them at all. Especially with his appetite.

Bark & Co These Boots Were Made For Squawking'

$14.00

Of course you need cowboy boots anytime you visit the wild west, so this toy is absolutely perfect for this month. The boot itself is just a plush toy with a squeak inside, but the details on the toy are great. Also, my dog loves tearing about his toys to kill the noise inside, but I’ve noticed Bark & Co toys lasting much longer than normal. Toys are often ruined within a few hours, but toys from this box usually last a few weeks and sometimes even months. My dog loves playing with this toy by tossing and tugging. When he looks like he may be tearing it apart, I just take it away from him for a few hours. That way I can appreciate it myself just a little longer.

Crumps' Naturals Beef Tendersticks

$8.00 - 1.9 oz

Oh, my dog is going to be really happy about these. These thick jerky sticks are one of his favorites, and they go perfectly along with the theme as well. While there aren’t many in this bag, these jerky chews are always expensive in the store, so we are both happy to receive any at all. I am happy to see that these are made with natural ingredients, so I’m not giving my dog fake or processed food. BarkBox does such a great job at delivering a variety of treats, and these are perfect for those time I want to give him a larger treat, like after a bath or relaxing in front of the tv on a Friday night. We are both satisfied.

Bark & Co Sheriff Doc Howliday the Heggie

$12.00

While this toy may make zero sense, it is really cute. This hedgehog stuffed toy is wearing a sheriff vest so it will be the boss of the toy box. This is another stuffed toy with squeaks, which is a little bit of a bummer since I like variety, but my dog really likes them, and he doesn’t really care nor know the difference. I will say, the bandana is pretty darn cute, and he is growing on me. I just wish the second toy was a throw or tug toy instead. Mix it up, BarkBox. I am glad he still fits perfectly with the theme.

Happy Howie's Beef Burger Chew

$5.00 - 1.0 oz

Even though I hated on BarkBox for sending two plush toys in one box, they do a great job of sending a variety of toys and treats. To round out the box, they always send a single treat or rawhide to really spoil your dog. These normally don’t go along with the theme, as they are just your typical pig’s ear or jerky stick, but this time they did a great job tying it in. This burger chew looks like it came right off the grill, and feels like a cold burger patty. I gave this to my dog after the dreaded nail clipping, and he really enjoyed chomping it up. It is a great way to treat him after being such a great dog.

Overall, this box was pretty great. I am a big fan of all the treats, and the toys were cute as well, but I wish there was a little more variety. He only needs so many plush toys. This theme wasn’t my favorite, but I am glad we are sticking with the around the world yearly theme. This month’s box has a value of $45. That is great, since I only paid $20 with a coupon code, but I don’t know if I would be too happy after paying the normal $34 price. I do know I wouldn’t be able to purchase these products in store for anywhere close to what I paid on the box, so I am happy with that price and with the value.
